Regular use of common analgesics, such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or NSAIDs, appears to increase the risk for hypertension in older men, according to a study. The study, published in the February 26 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, was conducted by a group led by John Forman, MD, of the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
They note that acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and aspirin are among the most commonly used drugs in the United States, and 2 large studies (the Nurses Health Study I and II) have recently suggested these agents may be associated with an increased risk for hypertension in women, but this association has not been extensively studied in men.
